Term 4 2019

This term it is all about looking after ones self - health and well being...

The challenge was to work out a good "tech" slant to it... and as usual we came up with a good one !

It fits well with "hard tech" but is not WOOD

It's  CONCRETE !

hard enough for you !  haha !

We are currently looking at a happy place, stress and nerves and a de stress method !

Now we are looking at makiong gifts for 5 people we know - with the stipulation its made by hand !

The we looked at the criteria for the project - the materials we will use

water sand and cement !

now they go away and research what could be made with these materials as a craft / gift possibility !

Good luck !

more next week.....

Perception Neuron and iClone

Imagine "Lord of the Rings" - remember Golim - how the digital character moved round - it was controlled by an actor in a "suit"
"incredible technology"

Now what about this - we have a "suit" too - and its got so much potential - we have spent last term "playing with it" and getting to know the suit - the programme and then Iclone 7 as well....
This term we have had some incredible success and we got it going - thats a milestone !

A pictures worth a 100 words - watch this and see the excitement in the boys voices......

...... now that has possibilities !!!!

We are going to partner this with character creator so even better !
there's lots of just in time learning going on right now....

STEAM Lessons with Chinese Students

August 12-16 saw 29 Chinese students visit MVS to complete a week long course on their STEAM Water Turbine lessons with students at MVS
Mr Gover was away so Mrs Sutton stepped in and completed the 5 lessons for him.
Mr Gover said he was extremely jealous he missed out on the lesson but Mrs Sutton - Room 17 students and the 29 chinese students all worked so hard during the week to complete the design and prototypes
Here are a series of photos of the week
Monday was getting to know each other with the first stages of planning underway

Tuesday and Wednesday were all about the research, planning, design and most importantly getting the measurements right - measure twice cut one was the motto as we didnt have endless supplies of materials

Thursday was the day we saw it all come together - all the planning, the discussion, the prototyping in cardboard helped make the final prototype come to being.....we got to glue it together and it started to come together....

Friday 3:00 and the day was over but for most groups they didnt get it all completed ... probbly a time issue but not because we wasted time - more because we just had so much to do and not enough time... but the results were brilliant !
we were so proud of what we had achieved and there was more to do. Our Chinese students had to go but Room 17 will truck on next week and finish the water turbines off and send a video to the Chinese students when they have finished

Dr Amanda, William and the Blood Box

This is a 3 week catch up on whats been going on behind the scenes ...

We are on "Round 2" of the "blood box" and William has made it his mission to help improve the 2018 Blood Box"

He has sent Amanda a video as an introduction and a plan of attack for the 2019 model
link here..........  William to Dr Amanda

So far William has re designed the box to a more streamlined version and adapted the name by making it an insert/stamp like motif... Dr Amanda commented that the old one would have blood etc in it and it was hard to clean

So Williams solution was to fill the lettering "holes" with resin to make it flat while still having the Marina View School name visible...

at this stage we have sent it back to Amanda for a review and feedback

11-3-19
Dr Amanda has sent back a reply via video

12-3-19
William will review the video then we can have a discussion on the next step

Week 6 and "we rock"

We are all so pleased with the movies and games we have produced in 5 weeks.

The feedback the students have given says they thoroughly enjoyed the unit.

Our pephas we recorded with audacity we very successful and to put them into Crazytalk and animate the cartoon characters were brilliant

We will post the finished movies to Linc-ed along with the comics they produced as a pdf...

We dipped our toes in using Gamefroot and want to continue using it to learn more more coding - most of the students gave it 8 or 9 out of 10 for ease of use so we look forward to doing more coding next term

we will post a few examples here later this week

Welcome to 2019 Tech

Welcome to 2019 Tech
We have an exciting time this term with lots of new programmes to learn.
Our topic is "Our Voices are Powerful" so we have tried to integrate the tech' and computer work to create content made by the students.

this will be over 5 weeks with a 90 minute lesson each week.......

BRING IT ON !

THE BASIC IDEA....

#1
Everyone has a Pepeha or Mihi to say this term so we thought we would create a few assignments for the students...

Using Comic Life we are going to create a comic based on their pepeha so each line in the pepeha is a segment in the comic

Each segment is going to have 2 speech bubbles - one Maori and one English
insert that - then add a picture to complete it

Sounds simple so far .......

#2
They are drawing a cartoon character of themselves.. either from scratch or using a template....
do this on A4 then outline it in felt pen
We take a photo of it to insert into their cartoon (#1) and into Crazytalk 4  (#4)

#3
Audacity - we have written the pepeha and said it out loud so now we use Audacity to record ourselves saying it - save the files as a sound file and then it goes into Crazytalk

#4
Crazytalk 4 - we need to work out how the programme works first then explore how we can use it to display the pepeha...

After exploring we worked out this assignment...

Using the cartoon they drew we took a picture and loaded it into Crazytalk 4 - set up the eyes and mouth points and then saved it
We loaded the sound file from Audacity into Crazytalk and then voice synced it to the cartoon.

Play it and the cartoon is saying their pepeha !!!!

now convert it to an avi movies and we ARE  DONE !

#5
gamefroot.com
use the gaefroot website to make a game based on their pepha...
the best way is to use their tutorial to create it

this is just a brief introduction to coding...

gamefroot is a NZ company so we are trying to support NZ companies !

we will be posting samples by the end of week 4 or 5
