Cool comments from the kids

We are just about finished and asked the children for comments about their journey...
unsolicited and no not spell checked etc....

Amberley - Tractor building was a great learning experience for everyone and i think i speak for everyone when i say that i had fun and learnt things i wouldn’t normally learn. Everybody was very cooperative and positive and we all had different jobs E.G. me, Ashley, Charlotte and Megan made the trailer while the boys made the transport tray.

Ashley - School is known for maths and literacy, but who knew we could somehow bring tractor building into its midst? Tractor designing has been a great process, right from the very start, when it was an old, broken down ride on lawnmower. At no point did we have a plan, yet the tractor is coming along in leaps and bounds - well, whirrs and rumbles. Each aspect of the tractor has its set of obstacles and challenges, where we had to put our problem solving brains to the test, to create the ultimate, innovative tractor. Thanks to Mr Gover for giving us this fantastic experience. ☺

Charlotte - I loved being part of this experience. Doing this taught me lots of new things that I knew nothing about. I would never have had the chance to learn any of this during class. I was part of the group which built the trailer which will attach to the back of the tractor. Amberley, Ashley, Megan and I had lots of fun coming up with a plan and making the trailer. It was great for all of us to have different jobs to work on instead of just walking around not knowing what to do. Thanks Mr Gover for giving us this great opportunity, thanks for keeping us in line and for teaching us all these new skills.

Vaea - tractor making is lots of fun because it is not ordinary it is different ,unique and unimaginable but since mr gover has such a creative mind we have almost finished. My part was making the design for the roof ,the mudguards and painting.

Florian  - Tactor Building is very interesting, that lets you learn stuff that most kids learn in highschool like electrical cabling it might sound dangerous but it's all under control and we are all weary of what will kill us and hurt us. It nice that everyone decide on new idea instead of one person make a plan that we have no control of. And this is the type of thing that most intermediate and middle schools don't provide, everyone is more cooperative in this and we help each other.

Ethan - Why I like tractor making is because we get to try new things and solve problems with hand on materials. Also it is fun because after we do all the sanding fileing painting we get to drive the tractor.

Isaac I really like it it’s really fun and practical it’s really Amusing and innovative we get to have a lot of different ideas I’ve done all the practical hands on stuff

Zhane: I think it is a cool learning experience. You learn news, and it challenges you to think and problem solve.

Sasha: I enjoyed building and painting the tractor since it is a nice relief from boring school work to building a real tractor and we get to ride it! The tractor building experience has been very fun, innovative and inspirational to me and to everyone else. i think we all enjoyed building a tractor for options this term.

Seva: Who would have thought that out of a broken down ride-on-mower a team of about 12 primary school students can make a decent tractor? Only at Marina View School, with Mr Gover this can be done. I have really enjoyed completing this innovative, original and hands-on task, or should I call it a very special experience?! I’m sure that if everyone knew how interesting this option would be, the whole school would’ve chose it! I learnt a lot about technology in this option- I will never regret choosing it. :)

Megan: I love working on the tractor! Its a awesome learning experience and it's really  fun. I especially enjoyed learning about the electronics behind it all! I learnt a lot about tools, and technology! I loved this option!

Tractor progress

We have had such good fun - lots of learning, lots of creative designers and some very proud children... proud of their effort and proud of the results so far and we haven't finished yet.
Most of the original team are with us term 2 so its taken 6 months to build this machine !
We had ideas on what it would look like but continually changed it as we went along - most of the planning, input and work has been from the children - definitely a fluid planning approach but look at the results
